Your Bagisto Store Just Got PhonePe-Ready — No Extra Build, No Extra Cost

A few months ago, if a client asked us to add PhonePe to their Bagisto store, the answer was always the same: sure, we can build that. It just meant kicking off a proper development cycle - registering a new payment method, writing the signature validation logic, wiring up webhooks, testing every failure case, the whole thing. Not hard for us, but not instant either, and every merchant paid for that build separately, even though the underlying work was basically the same each time.

That's changed now. We've partnered directly with PhonePe, and going forward, PhonePe is simply part of the Bagisto stores we build - switched on by default, not something you commission as a separate project.

The Problem We Kept Running Into

Honestly, this came out of a pattern we kept seeing. Almost every Bagisto merchant we work with in India eventually asks for UPI support, because that's just how people pay here now. PhonePe alone processes billions of UPI transactions a month and has one of the better success rates in the industry - it routes payments across multiple banking paths in the background so fewer transactions fail or time out at the worst possible moment, mid-checkout.

So we had two options: keep rebuilding a near-identical integration for every client who asked, or build it properly once, get it blessed by PhonePe directly, and make it something every store just has. We went with the second one.

Why UPI Isn't Optional Anymore

For most Indian storefronts, UPI isn't a "nice to have" payment option anymore — it's often the first thing a customer looks for at checkout. A gateway that doesn't support it natively is quietly losing sales nobody notices until they check the abandonment numbers.

What This Means for Your Store

If you're already working with us, nothing breaks and nothing needs migrating - PhonePe is now available as a standard payment option on your Bagisto store. Turning it on is mostly a matter of connecting your PhonePe Business merchant credentials and running through a quick sandbox check before going live. No developer sprint, no separate invoice for "building the PhonePe module," none of that.

For Existing WebbyTroops Clients

A few concrete things this gets you:

  • UPI, cards, net banking, and wallets, all through one checkout, without you needing to think about which gateway handles which method.
  • We keep the integration current - if PhonePe changes something on their API side, that's on us to track, not something that shows up as a support ticket for you six months from now.
  • It's built to hold up under real volume, so it works whether you're running a single storefront or a multi-vendor B2B setup with split payouts.

For New Clients Considering a Bagisto Build

If you're new to WebbyTroops and evaluating a Bagisto build, this is now just part of what you get - you don't need to ask for it specifically, though it's worth mentioning early if PhonePe (or a particular payment mix) matters to your launch timeline.

Want the Technical Deep-Dive?

Some of our clients like to know what's actually happening behind their checkout, and a few of our own developer readers just like this kind of thing - fair enough. We already wrote up the full technical side of this integration: how the SHA256 signature validation works, how the webhook and redirect flow is structured, the actual PHP classes involved, all of it. That guide is still live and still accurate to how the integration works today: How to Integrate PhonePe Payment Gateway in Bagisto.

Think of this post as the "what and why," and that one as the "how."

What's Next for WebbyTroops

This isn't a one-off. The plan is to keep doing this - find the integrations that nearly every merchant ends up needing, build them properly once with the provider directly, and make them a default part of a WebbyTroops Bagisto store instead of a recurring ask. PhonePe was simply the clearest case, given how much of India's checkout traffic runs through UPI today.

If you want to talk through activating PhonePe on your store, or you're planning a new Bagisto build and want to know what comes standard, reach out to us - happy to walk you through it.
