What can a Shopify app do?

What are Shopify Functions and checkout extensions?
Shopify Functions let an app change how Shopify’s backend behaves, for example by applying a custom discount or hiding a shipping option. Checkout extensions let an app add or change parts of the checkout interface. Both run inside Shopify, so they stay fast and are kept in step with Shopify’s updates.
